Class
95 of the Austro-Hungarian state railways kkStB included just five
locomotives of three different types. All came from various private railways.
Two of them, 9501 and 9503, were among the first engines purchased for newly-opened
Lemberg-Czernowitz-Jassy Eisenbahn (LCJE, nationalized in 1891) from
British Manning, Wardle & Co.
of Leeds (serial numbers 155/1865 and 177/1865, respectively. Both were
withdrawn in 1890. No. 9502 was supplied for the same railway by Worcester Engine Co. (serial number
5/1865). Although locomotives from these two British manufacturers were
basically similar, they differed in many details, including overall
dimensions and diameter of drivers. No. 9501 was sold in 1874 to Erzherzog Albrecht-Bahn
(EAB, nationalized in 1891). It
survived in the kkStB
service until 1894. Nos.
9511 and 9512 were built by StEG (serial numbers 1824/1884 and 1825/1884) for the Galizische Carl Ludwig-Bahn
(CLB, nationalized in 1892). They
were typical for their time light tank locomotives with the 0-3-0 axle
arrangement, inner frame and Gooch valve gear. Initially numbered 201 and
202, in 1905 they became 95.11 and 95.12, respectively. During their service
they underwent minor boiler modification and were fitted with enlarged coal
boxes. The latter was withdrawn in 1910, but 95.11 survived until 1918 and
was taken over by PKP. According to
www.pospichal.net/lokstatistik,
class designation TKh13 was envisaged for this single locomotive, but it was
withdrawn before new system came into use. Most probably it remained in
south-eastern Poland, but no details on its service are available. Main technical data*)
